Barbecue event raises over $20,000 for area students
This year’s festivities brought more than award-winning barbeque to the Boats and Bones Barbeque Competition at Table Rock Lake in Kimberling City, MO. The event raised over $20,000 to help area youth in pursuit of higher education through the White River Valley Scholarship Trust Program.
Participating teams traveled from across the country for their chance at the coveted title of Grand Champion.
The public events included live music, cooking demonstrations, a kid’s barbeque competition and activities, Backyard Burger Brawl and People’s Choice tasting event which proved to be a sea of barbeque all could enjoy.
The high steaks came the next day as the competition’s intensity grew. With the help of sponsors, such as Smithfield Foods, the payouts totaled over $20,000 with 47 teams battling from Kansas City Barbeque Society’s competition circuit. The Steak Cookoff Association presented their Steak Cookoff event which was a new element for Boats and Bones competitors this year. It drew 41 cooks alone. Barbeque winners qualified for next round events, including the American Royal World Series BBQ Competition.
